SUMMARY

This two-day Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) Train-the-Trainer workshop is designed to create PASS trainers within your organization. Participants will be trained to instruct drivers in the areas listed below. Upon successful completion of the two-day workshop and certification examination, attendees are designated as PASS trainers; they then will be able to instruct community transportation drivers throughout Michigan in the passenger assistance and sensitivity skills areas covered by our PASS program.


 

COST OF WORKSHOP

There is no cost to attend the workshop (limit of 20 participants). Each transit can send a maximum of 2 participants. Lodging and dinner is the responsibility of the attendee.

TWO PREREQUISITES REQUIRED TO ATTEND WORKSHOP

CTAA will email you a link for the complimentary prerequisites on February 12, 2025. You cannot attend the in-person class without completing both of the prerequisites listed below.

Prerequisite One
”PASS Basic 7.0 - Sensitivity Skills Training”

This four-hour self-paced online course is designed to provide the sensitivity training necessary to comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) rules when transporting passengers. The course instructs drivers on treating all passengers with dignity and respect. It includes information on common hazards that a driver may encounter on the job, such as stress, fatigue, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and contains instructions on how to safely clean potentially contaminated medical waste. It also contains best practices on how to safely evacuate a vehicle in the case of an emergency.

A certificate of completion will be forwarded upon completion.

Prerequisite Two
”Train the Trainer - Techniques for Training PASS”

This comprehensive 1 hour 45 minute web-based course offers information, techniques and methodologies for in-house trainers on how to effectively train new & veteran employees within a transit system.

The participant will be guided through a video presentation that offers best practices used in adult education to assist the trainer in planning, developing and delivering workshops in front-line personnel that lead them to be “trained to proficiency." Materials will include a variety of exercises that will expand the participants understanding of how to be an effective in-house trainer.

A certificate of completion will be forwarded upon completion.

Day 1 // March 11, 2025 (9 am-4:30 pm)

  • Assisting passengers who use mobility devices

  • Accessible lifts and ramps

  • Mobility device and passenger securement hand-on exercises

Laptop Required

Participants must bring a laptop to access the email address provided during registration. This is MANDATORY. On day two, the test will be emailed to each participant. This test is taken during the class and will be used to send each participant their certificate.

HELPFUL NOTE:

If you're planning to bring an older laptop to class, please ensure it is ready for use:

  1. Inspect and Test: Take the laptop out of storage and power it on to confirm it works properly.

  2. Perform Updates: Install any necessary system or software updates well in advance. Failure to do so could cause delays.

  3. User Access: Ensure the appropriate user account has successfully logged in to the laptop prior to class.

  • Prerequisite Complete Deadline: Friday, February 28, 2025

  • CTAA will email the manual for workshop.

  • It is required that you attend both days of the workshop.

If you have been certified by CTAA in the past and your certification has expired or is close to expiring, you are welcome to take this in-person class to renew it. However, you must still complete the prerequisites before attending.
